DAYTON, Ohio - Ohio Attorney General Marc Dann filed separate lawsuits Wednesday seeking to close two Dayton-area charter schools, saying both had failed to meet academic standards over the past six years.
The lawsuits New Choices Community School has received more than $6.6 million in public funds, and Colin Powell Leadership Academy in Dayton has received more than $10.5 million dollars.
The lawsuit said students at Colin Powell Leadership Academy met only 1 of the 61 academic performance indicators required by the state and failed to meet its yearly progress benchmarks.
According to the suit, New Choices Community School met only 1 of 29 academic performance standards in its six-year existence.
The suits were filed in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court.
About 76,000 students are attending 311 charter schools in Ohio, according to the state Education Department.

Now I ask, is this a surprise? Both of these so called schools are small to begin with, so the money they've received is unreal. Add that these are for profit schools so from the get-go you have to know the kids, our children are going to suffer in the name of the almisty buck.
My question is why the hell it's taken so many years for action to be taken? We're talking a almost two generations of soon to be adult that are screwed for life!
Toss in that Dayton Public schools are a total joke. More employees than not are related some how and if you aren't related to someone in a high level position then you know someone who is that favors are asked for. So this just means it's a money thing and not the helping the children deal as they proclaim. They just don't give a damn about teaching the way I see is it's just that simple.
Are all teachers and staff like this? I hope not but from personal knowledge as one who has worked for DPS I know it's widespread and it reaches into every depeartment of the system. Dayton Public Schools have been in a building craze the last few years and tha'ts good, many needed rebuilt, but they've used millions of our tax dollars when they could have sold vqacant property they own throughout the city and county. Oh, you didn't kow that? Yes, every pice of land that a school once sat on but is now empty, they still own, and perform upkeep on. Plus they have bought up various properties as well as lots in neighborhoods. They own houses of which some employee's now live in and are kept up by school departments such as grounds, maintence and supply, plus they don't pay rent or taxes. Now how the hell is that using our money smart?
I'll end my rant with this and forgive me for not using the persons name because you and I know it would haunt me, but one long time high profile person finally had to retire from their position, so they got the retirement from that job, the benefits, and a leave package. Sounds nomral right? Sure it was. But then this same person is "hired" into another department, so they are getting their retirement from the old one and now a new salary from the new job, whihc was also management and over $50K a year. Years later this same person is forved to retire from the second spot to make way for racial balence, and I won't even go there, so now they get two seperate retirement checks. Now does this sound wrong to you? But hold the fort lucy, he now gets hired into yet another management position so now he's getting three paychecks, and all these spots came with a city provided vehicle of which he doesn't have to buy gas for, as it's gassed up at the transportantion dept, doesn't have to pay for repairs as those are done too and I'm not talking some cheep car, but decked out SUVs and trucks. I'm talking all the goodies.

So does it come as a surprise when these for profit schools screw not just the kids but us? Hell, most are staffed by former DPS employee's, some of which still hold a stop with DPS. Get'em in, get'em passed and get'em out so I can keep my job, that's what education is about these days, and that's how I see it.

I just don't understand this. Whatever happened to educating kids? When did the $ become more important? Are they throwing the kids to the wolves to make the $ grow? That's SICK! It's probably those same people who gripe and moan about so many people being unable to support themselves, and go on welfare, spending their tax dollars.

Well hell! If you hadn't been so dang greedy, they would have gotten the education that the tax $ were PAYING for, and you wouldn't have to now be supporting the very kids who YOU stole an education from. Can we say DUH??
