A few weeks ago, the transmission went kerplunk in my van. No fixing, need new transmission. SO, not having the $, I was stuck. The ex comes to the rescue, since he had 2 vehicles, and he gives (yes GIVES) me the car - a '96 Mercury Sable. Runs like a dream, love the car.

The past week or so, I notice that it's taking corners kind of shaky, and hitting even the smallest bump in the road is a major thing. SO, I took it to Goodyear this morning for an oil change, and asked them to check all this stuff out.

30 mins later the guy comes and gets me, wants me to see what the problem is. WTH!!
BOTH of my rear struts (or are they shocks? whatever...) are broke - yeah B R O K E ! And the stabalizer bar peg thingees are out of their holes - in other words, broke!

Their estimate is almost $800 for repairs. :Groaner:

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....... :banghead:

damn!! I think I'd look around though, goodyear is known to have some of the highest repair costs around. Try and find an IT shop. They repaired/replaced a transaxle for me years ago and were almost 50% under the lowest est and they did super work.

THanks both of you. Yeah I'm going to get a few estimates. Definitely not going with that one.
I just thank God that He kept us safe out on the highway when I took my boy to the dr yesterday. The repairman said that at any moment my trunk could be sitting on the pavement.

I had to take the next 2 days work off, since it's dangerous to drive it.
GOOD thing I have some design work coming up.

And miracles DO still happen!

After Kent and my ex suggested that I get another estimate, I called Tuffy's, took it in, and they're going to save me over $200 off the other estimate! Of course I still didn't have enough. BUT...........

My boss called me yesterday afternoon and, at first, offered to lend me the difference that I needed to get the car repaired. Then changed his mind and decided that I needed to save some of my $, so we came to an agreement where I still have some $ in my savings, and I'll be paying him back at a ridiculously low amount each week.

So da car gets fixed today! :D :bunny:

Yeah now I just have to find a buy for the van!

I need a couple of tires, and front brakes for the car, and it'll be all "winterized" and good as new :D
