View Full Version : Can we meet?
You've meet someone online and have gotten to know them. There's been some flirting and hinting and jokes of meeting. The question is, will you really do it?
Not just a yes or no question since there are so many issues involved and I hope we can be completely honest and open in our answers.
So, some of the question on this topic are:
• Have you asked to meet someone and if so did you and how did it work out?
• Has someone asked to meet you and were they really like they said they were?
• Has the internet become the new dating scene or just another form of a pick up bar?
• Does the internet only provide fantasy relationships that should never happen for real?
There's no good question and no good or right answer, just how do you see it or how has it been for anyone that you've ended up meeting by meeting them here first.

After spending many years alone after my ex left, my family told me to get off the internet and find someone but do not look on the internet. So I went to a bar. BLAH, I don't even drink. I ended up having to have that guy arrested for phone harrassment and threats against my life. Next thing I know the love of my life answers a personal ad I had up on the internet for over a year. After our first date we married 6 months to the day later. We have been married 8 years and very happy. Not all work out like this, I just got lucky.
First time meetings from the internet should always be met in a public place and let someone know you are doing so and where the meeting is taking place and how long you will be gone.

I'll answer the questions first...
Have you asked to meet someone and if so did you and how did it work out?
Yep I have asked, after talking to them (there've been several) for quite a while, and I'm glad I did. Meeting deepened our friendship and we're pretty good friends still.
Has someone asked to meet you and were they really like they said they were?
Some were, and some weren't.
Has the internet become the new dating scene or just another form of a pick up bar?
For some it has.
Does the internet only provide fantasy relationships that should never happen for real?
Again, for some it does. There are nightmare meetings, and awesome success stories.
I've met quite a few online friends in person. I've had 2 long-distance relationships, one of which ended badly, the other who I'm still friends with, moved to Arizona, but we talk fairly often.
I have met a couple of people from this site, and enjoy close friendships with them. http://www.exquisitelyerotic.net/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif

• Have you asked to meet someone and if so did you and how did it work out?
I met my wife on the net in 1999. We both went to the same chatroom in Yahoo. She had a tech support buddy already but he was not online, so she came to me with her problem. We met the next day after talking all night long and married three years later.
• Has someone asked to meet you and were they really like they said they were?
My wife was precisely what she portrayed herself to be on the net. It was a refreshing change from "she's drunk at the bar, I'm drunk at the bar, let's hook up".
• Has the internet become the new dating scene or just another form of a pick up bar?
The internet is very much so the new dating scene. It's easier to open up over the net without having to worry about body language and facial expression betraying your true feelings. There's a certain sense of safety in the fact that you can sign off any time you want if something goes wrong. Compare that to being at the bar where they can follow you to your car and you have no real out method.
• Does the internet only provide fantasy relationships that should never happen for real?
I strongly disagree with this considering I owe my entire life and family to meeting "a girl" on the net back in the day.

I agree with you for the mostpart.
I met my son's father online in a yahoo Christian chatroom. We married a bit over 1 year later. Altho we're not married now, we're close friends, which is very good for our son.
I also met Kent online, and now we're very close offline friends. I have a few other friends who I met online and now know offline as well.
The internet's a great place - as long as you're very, very careful.
I heard in the wind that it's possible that some from here and there wanted to met for drinks or something, just a get to know the person behind the font thing, true?
Let me know so I can meet with the warden and try and arrange a day pass.
Y'all don't mind bright orange jumpsuits, do ya?
